IADR Education Research Group Grant

The Education Research Group (ERG) invites proposals of up to $2,500 USD for consideration. The ERG Grant is designed to fund an educational research endeavor that leads to the promotion or dissemination of effective learning and/or teaching activities in dental education.

Eligibility

Active Members of the ERG are eligible to apply. Members of the ERG Research Grant Committee and specially appointed reviewers are not eligible.
Typically only one grant will be awarded in a calendar year.

Successful applicants will be asked to submit a brief report and present their findings at the IADR General Session.
Successful applicants will be asked to acknowledge the funding in any resulting publications.

Notification of Receipt

Project Leads will receive notification email from the ERG Officers confirming receipt of proposal should they be eligible for the award.

The award will be announced during the IADR General Session Meeting at the ERG Reception and Networking Session

Procedures

Initial Stage, Expression of Interest, Submission of Proposal
- The ERG officers will verify that the application meets all eligibility criteria
- ERG will assign each application to at least two reviewers with relevant expertise.
ERG Preliminary Review:
- Reviewers conduct an initial assessment based on predefined criteria (e.g., project significance, feasibility, budget justification). See below Criteria.

Reviewers’ Scoring:
- Reviewers score each application using a standardized scoring system (e.g., 1-5 scale) across various categories (see evaluation criteria).
- They will also provide a justification for recommendations.
Discussion and Consensus:
- Convene a review panel meeting to discuss the top-scoring applications.
- Reviewers discuss strengths and weaknesses, and reach a consensus on the most promising proposals.
Final Decision:
- ERG Officers will rank the applications based on the consensus scores and discussions.
- Select the highest-ranked application for funding, ensuring the total amount does not exceed the award budget.

Notification:
- ERG will inform applicants of the decision, providing feedback on their applications. It is at ERG’s discretion to provide feedback to rejected and unsuccessful applicants. ERG is operating on a limited resource. ERG may not always have the capacity to provide feedback depending on the number of applications received and administrative constraints.
  - Successful applicants will be asked to submit a brief report and present their findings at the IADR General Session.
- Successful applicants will be asked to acknowledge the funding in any resulting publications.
Awards
- 50% of the awards will be provided upon receipt of acceptance.
- The remaining 50% of the award will be provided upon receipt of the successful applicant's final report and any relevant required supporting documentation.
Report submission:
- ERG will maintain records of the review process, scores, and decisions for transparency and future reference.
- The successful applicant will provide a progress update to the ERG officers approximately 6 months following the award, and will update the ERG officers of any progress concerns as the award period is undertaken. A final report will be provided to ERG officers and for sharing with membership and the successful applicant will present their findings at the IADR General Session.

Each application will be evaluated based on six key criteria. Reviewers will assign a score from 1 to 5 for each criterion, where:

5 – Excellent: Fully meets or exceeds expectations
4 – Good: Meets most expectations with minor weaknesses
3 – Satisfactory: Acceptable but requires improvement
2 – Weak: Major weaknesses or gaps in explanation
1 – Poor: Fails to meet basic requirements
